Dexcom G5 Mobile App Reviews

Awful

New update doesnt work and wont allow me to even pair the device despite many attempts. It continues to state that the server is down. This has been for multiple weeks. It is just useless.

Keeps crashing

After updating to latest iOS version my dexcom app crashes. Several times throughout the day. Whats scary is when it happens at night time and you have a low blood sugar. This needs to be fixed asap. Better app testing needs to happen with new iOS versions. App also gets stuck when high/low blood sugar notice appears.

Frustrating because whats possible is visible

There are significant issues with this app, which I think can be grouped into two categories: poor app performance and poor user experience considerations. App performance: app repeatedly crashes, even with few background apps running and phone plugged in. This manifests as either data loss or a "signal loss" alert. I estimate five to seven times per week where this happens. App is unresponsive to touch, especially when responding to an alarm or alert. I have video of me swiping, tapping, shaking, etc. for two minutes waiting for app to respond. The real problem here is that you cant tell from the screen if youre looking at a real value or a frozen screen from hours ago, especially at a quick glance. UX: the idiocy of the "replace sensor" alarming is almost beyond description. A default period of six hours prior to replacemement, you get an alert. When do people change sensors? Most people, after a shower. When do you take a shower? Most people, in the morning. So when you get this six hour forewarning? IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. You cant modify or disable this alert. If you place your phone in "Do Not Disturb", it also silences the other alarms, such as high or low glucose, which are half the reason for having the system in the first place. The system is slow to respond to rising glucose (thats the nature of the sensing tech, not the apps fault), but this leads to repeated low blood sugar alarms after the hypoglycemic event has been treated. Even worse are high blood sugar alarms, where one is waiting on insulin to take effect (an hour or more), while every thirty minutes the app is screaming at you. These alarms need a "snooze" capability, where they can be silenced for a time period so the biologic effects of either hypo or hyper treatment can be sensed without disturbing the user. I would suggest user-adjustable from 15 minutes to 60 minutes. And while I havent confirmed this, Im fairly confident that the app alarms when passing either the hypo or hyper threshold in BOTH directions. Meaning, you get a low alert, eat carbs for that, then get another as you move up past the low threshold. The system is amazing in one respect - I dont have to carry yet another device with me to have a good idea of what my blood sugar is. The capabilities are so close to being superb - there will always be feature requests (data pump to dropbox or similar, as an example), but a good solid scrub of the code and some cleanup of the user experience would do so much here. So in the end, Im thrilled that there is an app solution. But straightening out these issues would advance the app significantly and I hope to see improvements in the next update.

Why create a complication with no data?

Why doesnt the complication read me my number/trend arrow? Infuriating. Further more, why cant dexcom issue a statement addressing this? How about some insight into this? We pay thousands of dollars a year for this product, some insight would be nice.

Incorporate insulin dosing

So I use the app called RapidCalc by Gilport (Google this if you cant find in the App Store and you will find gilports website. Its an Insulin On Board Dosing Calculator . Its awesome! Every since taking a pump vacation and using MDI, I use Rapid Calc. If Dexcom could incorporate a calculator such as this in their app I would only have to rely on Dexcom app instead of both apps. I think this Dexcom app has the base for it because it allows u to enter Carbs and Insulin units, just need to be able to insert pump settings into the Dexcom app and add the Insulin on Board calculator for MDI non-pump users. Please take a look at Rapid Calc by Gilport so you can see what I mean. For now I will be stuck with both apps but ideally would be so convenient to use just Dexcom for calculations! Thx for reading!

Some issues

I wish I could turn off the phone storage alert. The app takes over the sound on my computer when its open. Both of these are super annoying!! I need this app to make my life easier.

Useful, but lacking functionalities

It is really nice to be able to see the glucose value and trend graph by the turn of your wrist, however, a few improvements would go a long way: - See glucose value and direction straight from the complication shortcut - Be able to snooze alarms following the app settings (snooze for longer periods than the default watch 5 minutes). This is a big deal for me as it is annoying to keep snoozing that frequently unless you open the app on the phone and snooze in there.... - Enable the crown to switch the history time settings. A few of these have concerns have been raised by other users quite some time ago, so I hope that you guys are already addressing those and consider new ones.

Life changing

Great app, does its job wonderfully. This app plus the G5 have made a huge impact on my daily diabetes management. Love the new widget! Only wish is being able to pinch zoom in/out and pan the graph in the app when the phone is set to landscape mode, and be able to write in my own words what food I had when adding a Carbs event (in addition to the carbs value).

Ok. Close to good. Far from great.

Love that my phone and watch can see my glucose. Love that others can see it as well. Hate hate hate the following: 1 - have to choose between alerts on your phone or on your watch. Cant have both or just phone when app is connected. 2 - I just entered in a high glucose value. A couple of minutes later the alarm is going off due to high glucose. Thanks, I was aware before you were! 3 - an alert comes across the watch... Yeah hit that dismiss button. Does nothing for you and will keep repeating every five minutes until you dismiss it on your phone. 4 - beep beep beep comes across my car speakers at a much louder rate while trying to have my phone call. My glucose low? No! Says I closed the app and I wont get alerts. Liar! Havent touched it in hours! You closed yourself! Items I dont hate but wish it could do: 1 - make the watch more interactive and not just a display. 2 - allow a "snooze" feature on alarms for whatever period of time you pick. This will help with lows or highs when youve corrected but waiting for the sensor to pick up the newer ratings. 3 - sync with the tandem insulin pump (G5)

Caution: iOS 10 color fiasco

Caution: If you update to iOS 10 Beta 2 or Beta 3, the icon colors in the app are dark grey on black, making them nearly impossible to see. The app itself if good, but as others have noted, it would be nice to have a pinch zoom feature, allow scrolling the graph in portrait mode, and an active watch complication. The watch complication is my biggest desire. I dont need a shortcut, I need a) a small complication with the number and trend, and b) a large complication with the graph line.

Awful but what choice do I have?

Love the sensor, hate the app. I have called dexcom support a few times and always gotten the runaround. Every night, I park my phone on my nightstand. About 2 feet away from where I sleep. And yet every single night, I get "signal loss" and no data from about midnight onwards. So frustrating. It seems to require a restart in the morning to get the sensor talking to the app again. If I dont restart the app it never goes out of "signal loss" no matter how close I am to the phone. Second huge issue is that when it alerts me to a high glucose its really hard to dismiss the pop up and associated jarring claxon sound. Again multiple restarts are required. And yet what choice do I have? I love the sensor itself so I am not going to switch brands.

Frequently disconnects, does not adhere to alarm repeat settings

Though this app is extremely valuable, it frequently disconnects, which can be dangerous. Also, despite having my high glucose alert set to repeat once every hour, it still repeats every 5 minutes. My glucose takes the to decrease! I dont need to be bothered so frequently. This makes me want to turn my high glucose notification off. Additionally, my followers frequently arent updated if Im low. Thats the whole reason I got this app. The unreliability of this app makes me feel unsafe!

Love it

I love my Dexcom and that I am able to view my glucose on my phone any time I want. I would really like to be able to see my daily graph in a 3hr, 6hr, 12hr, and 24hr options, like the Dexcom follow app has. I dont feel like that would be too difficult to add! :)

Constantly looses signal

It was working great, but with this update it loses signal even when the phone is right next to the sensor.

Fantastic Update

Apple Watch Support and Notification Center widget support?! Well done! Thanks for listening fantastic update

Dexcom App Review

I have been waiting for the watch interface, it is working great. I will keep monitoring everything but the first few hours have been great.

Great Up Date!

Apple Watch app is great! I really like that you can add Dexcom to the "Today View"! Especially if you have notifications enabled in the lock screen. Thanks Deccom, keep up the innovation!

Share "fix" no longer needed!!

Watch notifications are now built into the app for today view and Apple Watch!! No more needing to install Share for watch notifications.

About time! Still a problem

Thank you for finishing the app for Apple Watch! Would get 5 stars if complication showed current blood sugar and wasnt just a shortcut to the app. Or at least display the current time on glances. Thanks.

Love

Love the update. I love the widget
